Jeanne L. (Uhlenhaut) Bender, of Needham, a resident of Needham for over 50 years, died Tues April 17, 2007 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center West campus in Boston. She was 78.
Born in Boston she lived in Newton and graduated from Brimmer & May School and Kathryn Gibbs Secretarial School. She had worked as a hostess at the Pillar House in Newton and had volunteered at the Glover Memorial Hospital in Needham. She enjoyed knitting and had been a Cub Scout den mother.
She is survived by her husband Edward W. Bender, her children Geoffrey A. Bender of Bethlehem PA and Holly Ann Bender of Franklin, her grandchildren Geoffrey A. Jr., Christina, and Teresa Bender and William Robert O'Leary and her sister Nancy Ashley of Ft. Wayne IN. She was the sister of the late Keith Uhlenhaut.
A funeral service will be held on Mon April 23 at 11 AM in the Newton Cemetery Chapel 791 Walnut St. Newton Centre. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center One Joslin Place Boston MA 02215.
