James was born on November 1, 1934, in Washington, Arkansas, to the late Hoyt and Ethel (Wilson) Calvin. He retired from the United States Air Force as a SMSGT. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jacquewine Calvin; and two brothers, Glen Calvin, and Adolphus Calvin. He is survived by his wife, Gladystene Calvin of Wichita Falls; his son, Terence Calvin, Sr. of Fort Worth; his daughter, Cynanda Calvin of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Rebecca, Eleanor, and Pearlie Mae; three brothers, Hubert, Lloyd, and David; two half brothers, Curtis Barr, and Otis Rucker; and four grandchildren.
