Julia Elizabeth Gibbs Morrison of Statesville, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House. Julia was born December 22, 1930 to the late Nelle McCurry Gibbs and Avery Benjamin Gibbs in Statesville, NC.

She was married on December 4, 1954 at First Baptist Church of Statesville and was the wife of William Gaston Morrison for 64 years.

After graduating from Statesville High School in 1949 she attended UNC Greensboro and graduated with a degree in early childhood education in 1953. Mrs. Morrison taught for many years at Pressly, Mulberry and Monticello schools in the Iredell-Statesville School system.

She was devoted to her husband, four children, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and was interested in all family activities, volunteer work and enjoyed family genealogy as a favorite past-time.

Mrs. Morrison was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Winthrop Society and was active in all at various points of her life.

In addition to her husband, William G. Morrison, Julia is survived by four children, William G. Morrison, Jr. (Jenny) of Chapel Hill, NC, Sandra M. Davidson (Paul) of Troutman, NC Pamela M. Harper and Daniel G. Morrison (Jane), both of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Christina Trimmer (Daniel), William Davidson (Amanda), Brian Morrison (Lindsay), Kenzie Demetros (Andrew), Callie Goss (Nathanial), Davis Morrison, Julia Harper, Rebecca Harper, Jack Morrison and Cameron Morrison along with four great-grandchildren and one brother, Dr. Robert A. Gibbs (Carolyn) of Williamsburg, VA.

A graveside service will be on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 1:30 PM in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Friday in the First Presbyterian Church fellowship room followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ed Boyce and Rev. Nathanial Goss officiating.
