John Monroe Harmon, who passed away on August 30, 1973, was born in Newton County, Miss, on May 22, 1893 to the late John F. Harmon and Julia Ann Dean Harmon.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Annie Laura Harmon, of Union, Miss., and 3 sons: Dr. Hubert Harmon of Hagerstown, Maryland, Rupert W. Harmon of Alexandria, Virginia, and Col. William F. Harmon of Warner Robins, Ga. One daughter, Mrs. William L. Lacy of Gulfport, Miss.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keneth J. Harmon of Union; three brothers, Mark M. Harmon of Arlington, Va., Roy Harmon of Canton, Ohio, and Charles P. Harmon of Santa Rosa, California. Also a sister, Mrs. Maude Todd of Hickory, Miss. There were 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Mr. Harmon was a 52 year member of the Union Masonic Lodge, the Hamasa Temple, the Miss. Bar Association, and the American Bar Assoc. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union. He held both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Miss. State University. A veteran of World War I, serving in France, he had both taught and administered schools in Newton County. He carried the U.S. Mail, Rt. 3, Union, for 25 years, and served 14 years as a Contact Representative in the Meridian Veterans Administration Office.
