Civil War Union Army Officer. Served as Captain and commander of Company H, 9th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, having received his commission on November 11, 1861. He was the first Union officer of a New Jersey regiment to die in combat in the Civil War. During the February 1862 Union assault on Roanoke Island, North Carolina he was leading his company when a spent cannon ball crashed into his chest. It did not break his skin, but caused internal injuries which caused his death. His older brother was Lt. Col. William A. Henry of the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry.
