Mr. Richard Leroy Whalen, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 10, 1939, to Joseph & Helen (Benedict) Whalen.

Richard served 6 years in the National Guard. He married the former Sharlyn Norcutt on July 8, 1967. Mr. Whalen had been a Co-Owner and mechanic of Joe's Friendly Service for over 40 years until retiring in 2001. Richard was a lifetime member of the Muskegon Eagles and enjoyed woodworking, collecting NASCAR model cars, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his Wife of 50 years, Sharlyn; daughters, Lisa Connell of Muskegon, Lori (Rob) Lawrence of Grand Rapids; son, Jeffrey (Diana) Whalen of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ed (Alma) Whalen of Muskegon, Robert (Kathy) Whalen of Muskegon; sister, Julie (Gerald) Shepard of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Jr.
