Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Wagoner and the Rev. Earl Rakes officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
Mr. Royal was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Wilkes County to Coy Lee and Mertie Ennis Wyatt Royal. He retired from Tyson Foods, where he worked as assistant breeder manager. During his employment at Tyson, Mr. Royal received the Service Man of the Year award. Mr. Royal served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Blue Ridge Tabernacle Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Silver Striders.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Connie Sheets, Callie Wagoner and Marie Perry, and three brothers, Claude Royal, Jack Royal and Bob Royal.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Royal of the home; a daughter, Angela Chappell and husband, Dale, of North Wilkesboro; a son, Gregory Royal and wife, Tracy, of Claremont; three grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Royal, Brianna Hughes and Jonathan Helms; three great-grandchildren, Kambry Royal (Papa’s Little Princess), Cameron Helms and Michael Hedrick III; and a sister, Edna Mae Stamper and husband, Fred, of China Grove.
