Sam Watson, age 65 of Pikeville died Saturday, June 2, 2018. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, loved farming, hunting, fishing, and watching football of any kind. He played high school football as fullback in the late 60s and early 70s. Sam worked at La-Z-Boy as a machine operator and in maintenance for thirty-seven years. He also laid brick and block for several years in his free time. Sam was one of the founding members of the Griffith Volunteer Fire Department.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Bessie Cripps Watson; brother, Gilbert Watson.
Survivors include his wife of forty-six years, Sharon R. Watkins Watson; children, Shenia (Barry) Derrick, South Carolina, Shonda (William) Holt, Sam T. (Kristen) Watson, Chris (Ashley) Roberts; siblings, Treva (Lee) Gore, Elizabeth (Hoyt) Hale, James (Carolyn) Watson, L. J. (Sharon) Watson, Dunlap, and Lela Watson; nine grandchildren;several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Sam had three good caretakers during his illness, Lisa L., Lisa B., and Susan B.
