Born Dec. 15, 1940, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Margaret (Carter) Wakefield. He was united in marriage to the former Deanna Gutshall May 1, 1959, in Mount Union. Mrs. Wakefield survives at their home.
Mr. Wakefield is survived by three children, David J. Wakefield and wife, Janie, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Chad Wakefield and wife, Andrea, of Shirleysburg, and Jennifer Brumbaugh and husband, Wesley, of Orbisonia; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a sister, Ella Eckenrod and husband, Foster, of Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Lee Wakefield; and two brothers, Dean and Charles Wakefield.
Mr. Wakefield attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Mount Union.
H e was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union.
Mr. Wakefield retired in June 2001 after 35 years of service with SCI Huntingdon as a tradesman instructor in shoe repair.
He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father and grandfather, and one who loved family get-togethers, especially his backyard barbecues. Mr. Wakefield enjoyed reading the Bible and was an avid tennis player for many years.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Carl Metzger officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 15, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
