Annie's family was that of the aristocratic class of England and therefore Annie was given a very good education. She was raised in the village of Ross and attended her higher grades of schooling at Ross, Herfordshire, England.
After high school, Annie enrolled in the Cheltenham College of Nursing. She graduated from nursing school in June of 1881 with "Highest Honors". She was then licensed as a mid-wife and nurse.
