Norman E. Levesque, 87, of Port Orange went to see the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Norman was married to Jeanne (Perreault) Levesque in St Joseph Church, Woonsocket, RI. They celebrated their 60 th year of married life last year. He leaves two daughters, Michele Kapolka and Denise Van Winkle-Hinton and her husband John Hinton, granddaughter Rebecca Kapolka, MD, grandsons Matthew Kapolka and his wife Melissa and Zebulon Hogeland and Rachel Robillard and two great grandsons, Julius Kapolka and Zane Hogeland. Norman was born on September 18, 1927 in Somerset, Mass to Charles Levesque and Blanche (Ferland) Levesque. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Thomas Kapolka, and brothers Roland Levesque and Arthur Levesque, and is survived by his four sisters Doris Whelan, Jeanne Bruce, Diane Lenardson and Theresa Touro. Norman studied at the University of Montreal, Canada with a degree in Gregorian, religious and classical music. He was organist and choir director at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Cathedral in Fall River, Mass. He was the first lay teacher at Monsignor Prevost High School staffed by the Christian Brothers of Instruction. He also attended Catholic University in Washington, DC and obtained a degree in business. Norman joined the Knights of Columbus and became a Grand Knight Fourth Degree and Financial Secretary of Council 113 in Woonsocket, RI. He was chairman of the Council's 70th Anniversary Celebration and was instrumental in bringing His Eminence Cardinal Richard Cushing of Boston, Mass, as their principal speaker at the Grand Banquet. Norman was later appointed to the Diocesan School Board of Providence, RI. Norman retired from teaching and decided to attend the Holiday Inn Innkeeper School in Nashville, Tenn. He became Manager of the Holiday Inn in Attleboro, Mass., and then moved to Manager of the new Holiday Inn in Providence, RI. He later became Manager of the renowned Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Providence, RI. To further his hotel experience, he became a Regional Manager for the Conrad Hilton Hotels. In 1972 he moved his family to Daytona Beach, FL and decided to use his experience and love of the hotel business by opening the Chateau de Valencia Hotel on A1A near the boardwalk. He ran the hotel for 14 years and sold it to the Marriott group in 1986. Norman loved to travel. His most memorable and cherished trip was to Italy and the Vatican with a group who received a special audience with Pope John Paul II. He always felt blessed and privileged to have shaken the Pope's hand. Norman was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for many years. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan for the church. A Mass of Christian Burial, for Norman, will be celebrated Monday, June 29, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 University Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL with Father Phil Egitto as celebrant. A visitation will be held prior to the service at Our Lady of Lourdes from 10:00am until 10:45am. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy. Condolences may be shared at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
