Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served first as a Captain in the 17th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel and commander of the 82nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on December 12, 1864 for "gallantry and meritorious services in the present campaign before Richmond, Va.". Originally buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was re-interred in Lawnview in 1951 when Odd Fellows was vacated.
