BAMBERG -- Mr. Henry Granite “Sonny” Beard Jr., 80, of Bamberg, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, after a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Beard will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Bamberg First Baptist Church, 11823 Heritage Highway, Bamberg, with the Rev. Charlie Lucas and the Rev. Eileen Gunnells officiating. Burial will follow in South End Cemetery.
He was born in Bamberg on Feb. 5, 1938, to the late Henry Granite Beard and the late Rossie Gray Beard. He was married to the love of his life, Mrs. Nancy Taylor Beard for 54 years.

He was a devoted husband, an avid Gamecock fan and loved the Braves. He loved his country and was instrumental in the Bamberg Flag Project. Sonny was known for his humor, friendliness, love of life and his big heart. His wife, children and grandchildren were his world. Sonny loved everyone and was loved by all. His mantra was, “Be blessed and always be a blessing to someone else,” and he lived by this every day of his life.
She is survived by a son, Rob (Wendy) Beard; two daughters, Sandy (Michael) Parnell and Bridgett (Tim) DuFrense; five grandchildren, Terry Beard, Matt Beard, Wyatt Whitlock, Jared Beard and Jonah Beard; two sisters, Virginia Kemp and Rosilyn (John) Earley; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Johnnie Ann Smoak.
