Betty Sue Morgan
April 30, 1926 - June 7, 2018

Betty Morgan passed away June 7, 2018 in Katy, Texas at the age of 92. Betty Sue Copeland was born on April 30, 1926 in Covington, Texas. She was raised as the daughter of a farmer and his wife. As a child, she had many chores around the farm including picking cotton. When Betty and her brother, James, would complain to their mother that their backs hurt from picking cotton, her mother's response became, "You don't have a back!"

Betty became a Christian at nine years old. She made her profession of faith during an old fashioned Baptist tent revival service and was baptized at Central Baptist Church in Itasca, Texas. When relating the story of her decision to follow Christ, she spoke of attending the revival by herself, as her mother was ill and her father was at home taking care of mother, thus demonstrating her strong, independent, decision making ability which carried her throughout her life. Betty became the only child when her brother, James, suffered a fatal accident on January 1, 1943.

She attended Itasca public schools and was graduated from Itasca High School in 1943, third in her class. Following high school, Betty attended Mary Hardin Baylor College. At one point during her college career, she had to give the funds that she saved for college to her parents so that they could have a well drilled on their farm when the water on their farm became unavailable.

Her generosity resulted in a delay of her college studies for more than a year. Without this delay, Betty would have never met her future husband. Betty graduated in May 1948 with a bachelor of science in Home Economics. She married Wade Hammond Morgan on July 31, 1948. They began life together in Houston, Texas. Wade was a results engineer for Houston Lighting and Power Company and Betty became a high school teacher for the Aldine Independent School District. She completed her Master of Education degree in 1952 from the University of Houston. Betty taught school for three years before becoming a homemaker.

Betty loved both cooking and sewing. She sewed many, many clothing items for herself and her three daughters. Betty was a fantastic cook. She was always on the lookout for a new recipe to try. Betty enjoyed traveling with Wade, including visiting 29 of the 50 states, along with Canada and Grand Cayman. Her all-time favorite trip was to San Francisco, California to ride the cable cars and eat at Fisherman's Wharf. Betty was a breast cancer survivor winning the battle with breast cancer on two separate occasions. She survived many medical crises that would have killed others. She also participated in church activities including Bible study teaching for children and later, adults. In addition, she taught Vacation Bible School for many years. Betty was also involved in the Tallowood Baptist Church sewing group, which provided lovingly sewn items to missions and retirement homes.

Betty remained a faithful and loving wife of Wade demonstrating her commitment during their 67 years of marriage. Wade predeceased Betty in 2016. She was also predeceased by her youngest daughter, Sherry Elizabeth Morgan Brown and by her great grandchild, Kyler Scott Turner in 2008 (Find A Grave Memorial # 182465497). Betty is survived by her daughters, Sue Ann Turner and Karen Kay Attaway; son-in-law, James Daniel Attaway; grandchildren, Cecil Frederick Turner, Jr. and wife Amanda, Kayla Lynn Turner Scott, Daniel Scott Attaway, Christy Denise Attaway, Laurel Copeland Brown, Chase Elizabeth Brown and Sydney Leigh Brown; and her great grandchild, Weston Scott.
An Inurnment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Houston National Cemetery with Rev. Larry Bertrand officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers are as follows: Cecil Frederick Turner, Jr., Daniel Scott Attaway, James Daniel Attaway, Dr. Joel Nichols, Philip Mays, and Elmo Maroney.
