Herman was born on May 8, 1930 in Oldfield, MO, son of the late Herbert Samuel and Ida (Moody) Green. Herman's mother passed away at a very young age. His father remarried Rethel L. Ghan and she lovingly raised Herman as her own.
Herman was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Monett High School. As a young man, he served his country honorably in the National Guard. He enjoyed working at Mid-America Dairymen and retired after 44 years of diligent and faithful service. Herman loved the Lord and was a great example of unselfish love to all that knew him. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Monett. He was a devoted and loving Husband and Father and a proud Grandfather supporting his grandchildren, especially with their athletics, as he traveled to many sporting events. Following their graduation, Herman continued to support and attend many of the Monett Cubs sporting events and liked keeping up with the kids. Herman and Virginia lived on a farm and raised beef and dairy cattle. They also enjoyed traveling to the Florida area for their vacations.
Herman and Virginia Lee Powell were united in marriage on May 19, 1951, at the home of his parents in Monett. To this union, two children were born. Herman and Virginia were blessed with being married 9 days short of 60 years. So many wonderful memories were made throughout their life with family and friends before Virginia's passing on March 23, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, H.J. Green and Norman Green; and one sister, Allene Zelinger.
Herman is survived by his daughter Lacreta Ann Obenhaus and husband Mark, of Ballwin, MO; his son, Sam Green and wife Becky, of Monett; five grandchildren, Justin Green and wife Amy, of Monett, Cody Green and wife Mandy, of Prairie Village, KS, Tyler Green, of Monett, Leah Obenhaus and Forrest Obenhaus, both of Ballwin; as well as three great-grandchildren, Emma, Hudson and Ethan Green. He also leaves a brother, whom he loved spending time with, Robert Green and wife Debbie, of Pierce City, MO; and a sister, Ola Jean Feeney and husband Clarence, of Springfield, MO.
Funeral services for Mr. Green will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Buchanan Funeral Home with Dale Graham, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow at the MonettI.O.O.F.Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. In memory of Mr. Green, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Compassus or to the Monett Athletic Booster Club c/o the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
