Born September 17, 1940 at Pine Bluff, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Haynes and Mattie Melissa Hendricks Haynes.
Mrs. Melton was a registered nurse having graduated summa cumme laude from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Bachelor of Nursing program. She worked at various institutions over the years, most notably Jefferson Regional Medical Center and at the Arkansas Department of Correction before retiring after several years of service
She attended First Apostolic Church of Sheridan and Hardin Apostolic at times, but most recently White Hall United Pentecostal Church.
Her pastimes included gardening, sewing and spoiling grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 47 years, Ralph Matson Melton, Sr. on August 2, 2004; a son, Ralph Matson Melton, Jr.; nine brothers and four sisters.
