Richard was born on April 26, 1935 at Sunrise to parents Alan and Mary (Keacher) Wilcox. Richard attended and graduated from North Branch High School. After high school he farmed and later worked at NASA in Cape Canaveral, Florida. He returned to Minnesota where he again farmed and worked construction most of his life.
