Fern Elizabeth (Mullin) Walston was born on March 24, 1911 in Mapleton, Blue Earth Coounty, Minnesota, and she was the daughter of Melton Jay "Mert" Mullin (1873–1966) and Anna Elizabeth (Knight) Mullin (1881–1923).
She was married about 1927 to Ralph Lester Walston (1906–1998), the son of Frank Leroy Walston (1877–1950) and Phoebe Ophelia (Snyder) Walston (1883–1967). At the time of her marriage her husband was a farmer in Foxhome, Minnesota, but by the time of the 1940 census, they were in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and Ralph was a truck driver for WPA.
When Fern moved to California is unknown, but she was almost 71 years old when she passed away on March 4, 1982 in Oakley in Contra Costa County.
Her body was cremated, and her ashes, along with those of her husband, were kept by her son Jerry.
