Sergeant First Class William W. "Bill" Madison Jr., 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Bill was born on December 27, 1930, in Fairfield, Virginia, son of late William Walker Madison and Essie Carroll Madison.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Charles Madison; two sisters, Lula Bell Falls and Judy Abshire; two sisters-in-law, Doris Madison and Dorothy Madison; and two sons-in-law, Stoney W. Jackson and William "Bill" Stokes.

Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marjorie Raines Shifflett Madison; one daughter, Evelene M. Jackson "Carol"; one son, William W. Madison III "Duke" and his wife, Jeannie; one stepson, W.H. Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Paige; six grandchildren, Angela E. Jackson, Eric and Matthew Madison, Michelle Madison Brown and her husband, Chris, Stacy Madison, and Amanda Boland; four stepgrandsons, Blake Shifflett and his wife, Ashley, Aaron and Will Shifflett, and Richard Stokes; one step-granddaughter, Valerie Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Isiah Dove and Trenton Withrow; one step great-grandson, Mason Shifflett. He is also survived by three sisters, Ethel O'Donnell, Faye Cougar, and Betty Claytor; and three brothers, Tommy Madison, Roger Madison, and Homer Madison and his wife, Emma. Bill also leaves behind devoted friends, Luther Kidd, Garcia Madison, Hank Williams and his devoted sister, Frances Raines.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years. He received a Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in the Korean War where he fought for 18 months. He also received the United Nations Service Medal, good conduct ribbons and the Korean Service Medal. After retiring from the military, he was a supervisor for Murray Mfg. in Earlysville until he retired from Siemens with 20 years of service. In previous years, he attended Wolftown Pentecostal Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, Va. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Emmanuel Christian Center, 111 New Life Drive, Ruckersville, Va., where he was a member. Bishop Michael V. Jackson Sr. will be officiating with the Rev. Homer Madison providing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. Following the interment, a reception will be held at Emmanuel Christian Center.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Brenda Taylor and Frances Raines for the loving care and support during Bill's extended illness.

The family would like to also express their deepest gratitude for the diligent and heartfelt care received from Dr. Brooke Bostic, Medi Home Hospice, Dr. Andy McFarland and the staff at Albemarle Square Family Healthcare, and H.B.P.C. (Veterans team of Martinsburg West Virginia).
