Edward P. Deets, 89, of Mountain Top, died Thursday, June, 7, 2018, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, surrounded by family.
He was born Dec. 13, 1928, in Slocum, and was preceded in death by his parents the late Philip and Grace Van Fossen Deets; Ruth (sister), Carl (brother), Marlene (sister), Greg (brother), Ann (stepmother).
Edward was a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War for the Second Army-50th Anti-Aircraft Artillery, as a motor-pool transportation sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, with three Battle-Bronze Service Stars, as well as the United Nations Service Medal.
Ed began his career as a truck driver and later was the owner of multiple businesses in Pennsylvania, Florida and Georgia, including Auto-Bus, North East Transfer, Rinehimer School Bus Lines, Stage Coach Inn and Holiday Inn Express in Drums.
Some of his memorable accomplishments included transporting steel used in the construction of the St. Louis Arch and base operator of the Greater Hazleton Airport.
Mr. Deets was also appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 to the Motor Carrier Rate Making Study Commission.
Edward is survived by his wife, Betty Ormanowski Deets; daughter, Donna (Peter) Courrege; Darlene (Corby) Lokken; Debra (David) Lysiak; Diane Deets; grandchildren, Candice Sawicki, Darryl Schwarz, Lance Lysiak, Luke Lysiak, Lee Lysiak, Allison Lokken; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Edward enjoyed being a businessman and entrepreneur. He worked seven days a week and loved his wife, family and Mountain Top.
His true passion was creating businesses together with his loving wife Betty as well as donating to countless organizations throughout the years.
They employed hundreds of people and helped many of them start their own businesses.
A private viewing with respect to the family will be held at McCune Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Monday in St. Jude Parish, Mountain Top.
A private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
