Penny Lynn Woods, 56, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018.

Penny was born May 25, 1962, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Woody and Ike (Dillon) Woods. She rode her pony through town, lassoing stray dogs to bring home.

Penny was employed by A.Y. McDonald and Consolidated Supply. She would be awake at 4:30 A.M., ready to embrace her work day. Penny loved her job and left the house whistling—just like her father did for many years!

Her life changed after two long battles against necrotizing fasciitis. Her commitment to see her three boys' journey through life kept her strong.

Penny was happiest when she was cooking for the family, crocheting a blanket, or rescuing a dog. She followed many rescue sites and knew hundreds of dogs' names and stories. Her dream was to run her own rescue, saving as many as possible.

Penny is survived by her chosen family, Tracei (Tim) Leners of Des Moines, IA; her boys, Ethan (Mike) Leners, Alec (True) Leners, and Addison Leners; her extended chosen family, Brooke Pagano, Nicholas Pagano, Christopher Pagano, Diane Jackson, Jill Sobie, Jeff Sobie, Lindsay Sobie, Jodie VanMeter, Mary Dunlay, Tracy McKinley, Diane Mortenson, Kathy Jacob, Molly Buss; brother, Rick (Judy) Woods; two nieces, Jackie Woods and Tonya Woods; two nephews, Zach Irish, Joshua Woods; two great nieces, Ivy McNamar and Madison McNamar; dog, Roseanna Dana Woods-Leners. She was preceded in death by her father, Woody Woods, mother, Ike Woods, sister, Darcie Mead, brother, Rocky Woods, dogs, Chubb and Lily.

Penny was surrounded by many who loved and supported her. Her chosen family stands for her in place of the family that chooses not to.

The family will receive friends from 5:00P.M.-7:00P.M. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Contributions may be made to Second Chance Rescue.
