LAFAYETTE — Opal Josephine Pounders, 90, passed away on October 13, 2012, at Magnolia Estates Nursing Home.

Funeral services, officiated by Pastor John Wamsley of Grace Presbyterian Church of Lafayette, will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel: 600 E. Farrel Road, Lafayette, LA 70508. A viewing will begin one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Pounders was born in Spencerville, OK, to Rufus Clinton Boaz and Rosa Lee Farmer and had five siblings, Clinton Elmer Boaz, Eula Mae Boaz, Doris Aline Boaz, Bonnie Alice Boaz and Ruby Alma Boaz.

A former resident of Lake Charles, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Pounders, and her daughter, Bobbie Jean Johnson DuBose.

Survivors include her son, John R. Sutton of California, and son-in-law, Thomas DuBose of Louisiana. She was also blessed with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who will miss her greatly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dugal and the entire staff at Magnolia Estates, as well as the staff at Heart of Hospice who played a tremendous part in her care. A special thank you is extended to Anita Tilly who has been such a blessing to us all. We can’t begin to express our gratitude for the kindheartedness and love she extended to our beloved grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Opal Pounders’ memory to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermilion St., Suite 100, Lafayette, LA 70501 or to the church of your choice.
