Viola D. Thomas, 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Masaryktown, FL surrounded by family, on Monday, May 28, 2018. She was born June 27, 1922 in Philips, PA to Stanislaus and Julia (Cholibska) Dutkiewicz, both immigrants from Poland. Raised in Pennsylvania, her parents sent her to New York City at 15 years old to start her own life. That is where her good fortune began taking a job as a governess for the Gordon family, who has remained a part of her life to this day. While in New York City, she met her beloved husband, a naval service man. After World War II, they moved with their three children to work in Saudi Arabia. There for 15 years, they added a fourth child. They moved to Florida in 1959 and started a chicken farm in Masaryktown in 1960. Eventually retiring from farming, she went to school to fulfill a lifelong dream and became a surgical technician. She worked at Lykes Hospital for 10 years. Though she suffered many hardships in life, she spoke of her many blessings including traveling the world, visiting the Holy Land, and having an audience with the Pope. Vi was a hard working wife, mother, baker, Bingo player, Polka dancer, and church steward tending to the church laundry for over 50 years. Her loving husband Albert Thomas, daughter Judith, son Albert, her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters predecease Viola. Left to honor Vi and remember her love are her sons Daniel (Mercedes), and Paul (Cindy); Albert's wife Labelle; grandchildren Jennifer (Joe), Shiloh, Christopher, Sierra (Joe), and Jonathan; great-grandchildren Katelyn, Tevin, Aliyah, and Mia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service is Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Masaryktown, followed by a luncheon and graveside ceremony at the Masaryktown Cemetery.Brewer & Son FH
