Andrew J. Dito, 64, of Lorain, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center after a six-month illness.

Born in Uniontown, Pa., he had been a Lorain resident for 41 years.

He was a Navy veteran who served with the SeaBees from 1948 to 1951 on Guam and in Coronado, Calif.

A senior technician at BF Goodrich Chemical Co., Avon Lake, he retired in 1991 after 35 years with the company.

He also was co-owner and operator of V&A Process Co., Lorain.

Mr. Dito was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, the Lorain City Club, the Italian American Veterans Post No. 1., Lorain Elks Lodge 1301 and AMVETS Post 47.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, LaVerne (nee Swaney); daughters Peggy Dito, Andrea Dito and Sheri Noll, all of Lorain; son, Andrew J. II with the Army in Denver; nine grandchildren; and a brother Carl of Aliquippa, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Frances, Marie and Grace.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the John J. Gluvna Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where Elks Lodge 1301 will have a memorial service at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Services also will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by 9:30 a.m. Mass at the Church of St, Peter. The Rev. Ken Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
