HAVEN - Zelma Lorraine Back, 87, died June 28, 2005, at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
She was born April 25, 1918, at Mount Hope, the daughter of Fred W. and Marguerite Barnes Dow. She graduated from Mount Hope High School. A lifetime resident of the Haven and Mount Hope areas, she was a homemaker and a reporter for the Mount Hope Clarion.
She belonged to Congregational United Church of Christ, Mayflower Circle and SCE, all of the church. She also belonged to Haven Senior Center and American Legion Auxiliary.
On Aug. 30, 1937, she married Arthur Collins Back at Hutchinson. He died Dec. 10, 1978.
Survivors include: two sons, Ronald and LeRoy, both of Haven; three brothers, Irvin Dow, Wichita, Arlyn W. Dow, Springdale, Ark., and Bud "Lyle" Dow, Mount Hope; five sisters, Ruthe J. Pelz, Aurora, Colo., Juanita M. Sweeney, Wheatridge, Colo., Nellora A. Evans and Corinnie O. Adams, both of Wichita; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Loren and Dale Dow.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Haven, with the Rev. Lillie DaMetz presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Van Campen Funeral Home, Haven. Burial will be in Laurel Cemetery, Haven.
