Jack L. Speaks, 89, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at his residence.

He was born October 5, 1928 in Forsyth County, the son of Elzey and Ada Lashmit Speaks.

Jack started working at the early age of 10, cleaning a Barbershop. He delivered grocery orders on his bike and eventually worked at the Hi-Jac Company operating a knitting machine.

In 1947 he began his long career with Reynolds Tobacco Company working his way up to Factory Manager upon his retirement in 1983.

He attended First Baptist Church in Clemmons and enjoyed the great fellowship he had with everyone. His love for helping and cheering others on included working with the Lions Club, the North Davidson Booster Club, Board Member of the Arcadia Fire Department, teaching Sunday School and serving His Lord on the Board of Deacons at Vernon Forest Baptist Church.

Throughout his life, Jack was never afraid of hard work and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He took immense pride in the yard work he had done for many who called on him. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, a trait shared by his sisters, his children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen; a son Terry; a grandson, Brian; his sisters, Jean Leonard, Lou Long, Ruby Myers, Vera Wright, Lois Speaks and Elsie Speaks and his brothers Ralph and Willard Speaks.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his daughters, Jackie Barlow and Sandra Lynn Speaks; special granddaughter(daughter), Angie Freeman (Shawn); a stepson, Todd Johnson (Karen); a stepdaughter, Vickie Pitts (Gary); granddaughters, Brooke Hiott (Taylor) and Paige Johnson; three special great grandchildren, Ashton, Linden and Chloe; three sisters, Helen Wynn, Edith Sprinkle and Doris Kiser; many nieces and nephews, as well as his close friends, Bruce and Mary Ann and his constant caregiver, Leon Swinton.
