Rector, David 1/2/1930 - 5/26/2018 Cedar Springs David Lee Rector, age 88, of Cedar Springs, Michigan passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on January 2, 1930 to Edwin D. and Myrtle (Brower) Rector. David graduated from South Union High School in 1948. He continued his education at Western Michigan University where he obtained a bachelor's degree and then obtained 2 Master's Degrees, one from University of Michigan in 1958 and one from Western Michigan in 1974. David spent over 35 years as an educator, teaching for 25 plus years in Benton Harbor Public Schools. After leaving Benton Harbor he continued as a substitute teacher in the Grant, Fremont and Rockford school systems. David married Ada Dexter in 1956 and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2003. David was an avid sportsman and loved to fish and hunt. He never met a lake or river that he didn't like! Everyone who knew them would agree that Dave and Ada were kind, humble and generous with their resources. David is survived by his brothers, Tom Rector and Bob (Marilyn) Rector and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, John. Services for David will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home in Sparta, Michigan at 11:00 AM with Reverend Tim Tuthill officiating. Family will meet visitors for one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Garfield Park Cemetery in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David's memory may be made to Lean On Me @ rockfordres.org, or the Alzheimer's Association in remembrance of how he and Ada helped so many in need. www.hessel-cheslek.com
