The book: "A Record of the Descendants of Captain John Ayres of Brookfield, Massachusetts" by William Henry Whitmore, c1870, Boston gives a brief BIOGRAPHY of Samuel Ayres.

Strangely, Mr. Whitmore could not determine the parentage of this Samuel who married Martha BELL. On two charts Samuel is identified as #36, a fourth generation from Capt. John Ayres (i.e., great-grandson). He should have been included as a child of #15 Samuel Ayres who married Eleanor Randall (p 18).

Note by contributor 25 Dec. 2016:
Samuel's tombstone gives age at death as 54 rather than Mr. Whitmore's age 52.

Because of the early demise of both parents, the younger children were given into the care of other families, as provided by records in the courts of MA. This included my direct ancestor, Asa Ayres who later married Mary Wait and removed to Ohio. / GJOT.
