BARKER- In Eureka, March 2, 1899, Charles S. Barker, a native of England, aged 68 years, 2 months and 5 days. The funeral will take place from Odd Fellows Hall, (Thursday) at 2 o'clock under the auspices of Humboldt Lodge No. 77. Interment Myrtle Grove cemetery, Odd Fellows plot.

The Last Sleep.

The funeral of the late Charles S. Barker look place from - Odd Fellows Hall yesterday afternoon, where a large assemblage of friends of the deceased and the members of the order gathered to pay their last respects to all that was mortal of the old pioneer. Rev. Griffith Griffiths conducted the funeral service. He made a short, but impressive address and was assisted by a male quartette, consisting of E. C. Bonstell, William Jewett, Thomas Spencer and E. Bond, who rendered appropriate music. Mrs. W. P. Ward assisted at the organ. The funeral was under the auspices of Humboldt Lodge, No. 72, 1. O. O. F., of which order the deceased was a member. The pall bearers were A. Cottrell, Charles Whitman, Ed. Higgins, Ira Thompson. Thomas Baird and A. W. Torrey. Interment was in the Odd Fellows plot at Myrtle Grove Cemetery, where the impressive burial service of the order was read as the remains wore deposited in their last resting place. The deceased came to Humboldt in early days, and was among the first to engage in the business of boat transportation on the bay. He successfully engaged in the occupation mentioned for a number of years, finally locating on a farm on Table Bluff. He married Emma I. Varian, who was raised as a daughter by Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Heney, in this city. Mr. Barker was a native of England, aged about 63 years, and his death leaves a widow and one son to mourn his loss.
