Age 84 - Son of Bayard Tuckerman, Sr., and Annie (Smith) Tuckerman.

Bayard Tuckerman Jr., helped lead a group of businessmen that founded Suffolk Downs in 1935.

Bayard and his wife, Phyllis (Sears) Tuckerman, held glamorous gatherings at Savin Farm. Their guests during the 1920s included the duke of Windsor.

HAMILTON, Mass., April 15 (AP)—Bayard Tuckerman Jr., a sportsman and a former president of Suffolk Downs, died yesterday at his home in Westport. He was 84 years old.

In the nineteen-forties, Mr. Tuckerman was a member of the state Racing Commission. He was active in bringing legalized racing to New England and helped reorganize the old auto track at Rockingham as a racecourse.

Mr. Tuckerman was president of Suffolk Downs when the first meeting was held in 1935. After his graduation from Harvard University he served overseas as a lieutenant in World War I.

Surviving are his widow, Millicent; a son, Herbert Sears Tuckerman, and three daughters, Mrs. George C. Cutler Jr., Mrs. Henry Foley Jr. and Mrs. Christopher Dickey.
