Suggested edit: Shirley Chambers, beloved mother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at the age of 82 years old.
Shirley Chambers was born in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, November 1, 1936 to Lloyd and Anna Kate Ellis. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1959. She was a bookkeeper at Grant’s Department Store for 21 years, worked at the historic Alamo for several years and a teacher’s aide for disabled children for the Southwest ISD until she retired.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Chambers of 31 years, parents, Lloyd and Anna Kate Ellis.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Sharon Kay Antu (George), sister Rose Ann Voss (J.D.), nieces Julie Pollard (David), Michelle Mitchell (Gary) and nephew Doug Voss (Traci).
Shirley was a wonderful, Christian mother, sweet lady with a loving heart. She loved her home of 70 years where she enjoyed watching the San Antonio Spurs, going to eat at Don Pedro’s Mexican Restaurant and most of all loved Jesus with all her heart. She is going to be greatly missed.
I want to especially thank Huebner Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center where my Mom spent her last year of life. She enjoyed playing bingo, making crosses and bracelets. She loved looking out her window and watching all the birds. Thank you everyone at Huebner Creek for all the love, care and support she was given. Special thanks to Harbour Hospice and everyone who helped take care of her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m. at San Fernando Cemetery III.
