James J. Zdrazil – age 93, of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Rolfe Care Center in Rolfe, Iowa.
James Joseph Zdrazil was born August 20, 1916, in Omaha, NE. He was the son of Charles and Mary (Kloveck) Zdrazil. He was raised in Pocahontas and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army with the Signal Corps during WW II. On August 25, 1947, Jim married Marcella (Hronek) Ollinger in Pocahontas. Together they raised eight children. Jim worked for Hemkers Furniture Store, Smith Dairy and Wells Blue Bunny Dairy before retiring. Marcella passed away in 1985. In retirement, Jim worked part-time for the Pocahontas County Conservation Board.
Jim was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and a longtime member of the American Legion. He especially enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his children, Sandra (Joe) Schlueter of Whitter, CA; Roger (Doris) Ollinger of Cedar Rapids; Jim (Jean) Zdrazil of Newport Beach, CA; Mary Cae (Gordy) Scott; Sally (Ray) Krips; Connie (Bruce) Ward; Jayne (Dean) Beneke and Al (JoAnn) Zdrazil all of Pocahontas; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; brother, Charles Zdrazil; sisters, Mary Newburry and Harriet Stoulil and a grandson, Jacob Stall.
