US Congressman. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1872 and became an attorney. In 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican and served one term, 1875 to 1877, and did not run for reelection in 1876. In 1879 he was Chairman of the state Republican convention. From 1879 to 1880 he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives, and in 1880 he was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention. He was elected a second time to the US House in 1880 and served two terms, 1881 to 1885. He did not run for reelection in 1884 and resumed practicing law. He later became active in third party movements, running unsuccessfully for Governor as the Prohibition party candidate in 1903 and Judge of the state Court of Appeals as the nominee of the Progressive party in 1912.
