Bluefield, WV - Charles “Sad Sack” Henry Gregory passed away on April 19, 2016 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He was a resident of Bluefield, WV his entire life and was 71 years old. Charles was a truck driver all his life, being a former employee of Vencil's and Industrial Transport. He loved seeing the country from behind the wheel of a tractor trailer and did not retire until the age of 70. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and boating. He was a man of many talents. He could look at anything and build it. He never tired of his love of the outdoors and spent many hours on riverbanks and in the woods. He lived life to the fullest andwas a wonderful father and grandfather.

Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on August 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Charlie Jack Gregory (Deceaed) and the late Myrtle Holt-Gregory-Pennington (Deceased). In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Okey Pennington (Deceased), whom he considered his father; his first wife, Diana Gayle Dinger-Gregory (1947-Deceased) whom he married on May 7, 1966 in Bluefield, Mercer County, WV, 1966, Page 62, Line 34, Application Date: May 4, 1966); his son, Richard Allen Gregory (1967-1990); and his brother-in-law, Don Roten (Deceased).

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Alice Roten-Gregory (1949-2018); his sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Dale Gregory (1942-2016) of Bluefield; three daughters, Donna Gregory-Edwards and husband Bryan Edwards of Bluefield; Rebecca Gregory of Bluefield, and Tammy Gregory-Tabor of Bluefield; along with one son, Charles Lane Gregory of Lindside; grandchildren, Jacob Edwards, Dametrea` Edwards, Dakota Edwards, Jordan Gregory, Jessica Gregory, Tara Sparks & husband Matthew Sparks, Michael Roaten & wife Alexandria Roaten, and Gabriel Tabor; and ten great-grandchildren, Alissa, Hannah, Noah, Matthew, Brayden, Kristopher, Madison, Wyatt, Isabella, and Grayson.

A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Donald Compton and Gary Pennington officiating. Those wishing to visit with the family and pay last respects may do so on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. In keeping with Charles' wishes, he will be cremated with his ashes spread at a family cemetery on Hurricane Ridge between the graves of his son and his grandfather. The family would also like to thank everyone for their prayers during our loved one's illness and through this difficult time.
