Benjamin Sears was born on 16 June 1706 in Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, a son of Samuel Sears and Mercy Mayo.

He married
(1) Lydia Ryder on 16 March 1731/32,
(2) Mercy Snow in 1735, and
(3) Abigail Burgess on 30 June 1737.

About 1745, he removed to the town of South East, Dutchess County (present-day Southeast, Putnam County), New York. He resided on Joe's Hill just east of the present-day village of Brewster.

Benjamin Sears of Southeast Precinct, Dutchess County (present-day Putnam County), New York wrote his will on 25 March 1784.

Benjamin Sears died before 12 January 1787 in the town of South East, Dutchess County (present-day Southeast, Putnam County), New York, when his will was submitted to probate. Probate was issued on 19 January 1787.
