Kathryn Ann Berry (nee Clark), our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012, while undergoing treatment at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Kathryn was 65 years old.

She was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on September 16, 1947. She attended elementary school in Byron, Ontario, and high school in London, Ontario, where she graduated in 1964. Kathryn trained at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, and became a registered nurse. She then held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility at the Hospital for Sick Children and North York General Hospital, both in Toronto, Ontario, John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, and the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. While raising her family in Charlottesville, Kate participated as a principal investigator in a nationwide study of child care sanctioned by University of Virginia and a number of universities nationwide. Kate was always interested in the welfare of others. She was a member of Crozet Baptist Church while living in Charlottesville and taught and eventually led the church's Vacation Bible School program.

She is survived by two children, Elisabeth Berry of New York City and Chris Berry and his wife, Maggie, who live in Brooklyn, New York; two grandchildren, Lucy and Grace Berry; a brother, David Clark of Waterloo, Ontario; her husband of 42 years, Dr. Michael Berry, a former professor at the University of Virginia and James Madison University; and many friends. Kate especially loved Canada, her native homeland, and the family's summer home in Port Bruce, Ontario, where she spent many wonderful summers with family and friends, tending to her thriving gardens and going on daily walks to the beach. Kate was also fond of sailing the world's oceans and took part in many cruises worldwide. Of utmost importance in her life were the treasured relationships she held with her husband, children and grandchildren. A service of remembrance and celebration of Kate's life will be held at Crozet Baptist Church 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012. A reception will follow in Gilliam Hall at the church.
