Lawrence Eugene Fleming, 97, of Hartford City, died Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2018 at University Nursing Center in Upland. He was born March 9, 1921 in Wabash, IN, and was the son of the late Theodore Hugh and Loretta (Elsroth) Fleming.

Lawrence retired from Montpelier Glove as a sewing machine repairman. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Lawrence was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hartford City where he was very active. He was an active member of the Senior Citizens and the American Legion.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Hope Delores (Morris) Fleming; two daughters, Rita and Barbara; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Cullum.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a wife, Elnora A. (Cruse) Fleming in 2004; son, Jerry Fleming; two daughters, Loretta Sherman and Catherine Rudd; and two brothers, Jack and Charles Fleming.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Hartford City, with Rev. Dave Newton celebrant. Burial with military honors being conducted by the Montpelier American Legion Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home.
