Deaconess Scott, better known as "Sandy," was educated in the public schools in Sumter County. She was a 1989 graduate of Sumter High School. She furthered her education at Morris College in Sumter, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1993. In 2008, she received her Master of Education in special education from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
At an early age, she joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, where she served faithfully and cooperatively. She was a member of the music ministry, education department, Young Women Association, Vacation Bible School and the deaconess board. She was employed by Sumter School District for the past 22 years as a special education teacher.
Her loving memories will be cherished by her husband of 25 years, Deacon Ricky T. Scott Sr.; one son, Ricky T. Scott Jr. "RJ" of the home; one daughter, Ari'Elle R. Scott of the home; a foster son, Na-Im Johnson of Atlanta; four brothers, George (Geraldine) Nichols of Rock Hill, George (Shirley) Furman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Anthony (Geraldine) Furman and Reginald (Cerdetricia) Furman, all of Sumter; one sister, Olivia (Lavander) Choplin of Goldsboro, North Carolina; a mother-in-law, Patricia (Bobby) Scott Buckman; two sisters-in-law, Andrea Scott and Tabitha Scott, both of Sumter; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Furman Charles.
Funeral service: Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 325 W. Fulton St., Sumter, SC 29150, with Pastor James Blassingame, eulogist, and Evangelist Savitrus McFadden officiating.
Interment : Hillside Memorial Park.
