Glen graduated from Mt. Sidney High School and Dunsmore Business College. He was employed for 37 years by E.I. DuPont, retiring as plant fire marshall. After retirement, he stayed busy as a very versatile handyman. He was a charter member of the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad, and one of the original members of the Stuarts Draft Fire Department, attending calls for over 50 years. He also served as a fire marshall for the State of Virginia for many years, and was a member of the Virginia Highway Safety Commission. He loved attending fire department lawn parties throughout the Valley.
Glen was a member of Verona United Methodist Church and served with the church in hurricane relief efforts following Hurricane Andrew. He served on several missions to Ecuador with LeRoy Jones Ministries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Wayne Sutton; and a sister, Margaret Ellen Martin.
Surviving are his wife, Irene (Propst) Sutton; a son, Bruce Sutton of Verona; a daughter, Glena Dameron and husband, Chuck, of Trinity, Fla.; two grandchildren, Miles and Christian Dameron; a stepson, Jeffrey Terry of Verona; and a stepdaughter, Sandra Anderson and husband, Jim, of Harrisonburg.
A viewing will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Bear Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at Verona United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bob Weeks and the Rev. Jeff Allen. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park.
