Born June 14, 1925, in Hickory, she was the daughter of the late Lester Lee Arthur Fox and Vesta Bolick Fox.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her beloved husband and honored World War II veteran, Nelson Sherrill Powell, and a grandson, Chad Jefferson.
Mrs. Powell was the owner/operator of Fairway Shopping Centers, Inc.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 92 years. She was also a Girl Scout leader for 28 years and a member of the Hickory Junior Women's Society. She gave to many of her favorite charities including St. Jude Children's Hospital. She also volunteered her time to her community in many other non-profit organizations.
She supported the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte. Mrs. Powell had great faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ which upheld her through many battles. She taught her children about faith, about Jesus and she taught them how to pray - an everlasting gift. Louise was a great friend and mentor to many and will greatly be missed. She left a great legacy.
Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Louise Powell, Joan Marie Powell Hasty and her husband, Steve, and Suzanne Jayne Powell-Hudson, all of Hickory; a sister, Evelyn Fox Clark of Crossville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Amy Michelle Jefferson and spouse, Debbie Jefferson, Bret Donald Jefferson and wife, Susan Witt, Jonathan Allen Hasty and wife, Amy, Stephanie Marie Hasty; eight great-grandchildren; and a godchild, Patricia Paris.
Funeral services will be held at Bass Smith Funeral Home, Thursday, June 7, in the chapel at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Paul Christy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., at the funeral home, an hour prior to services. A private burial service will be held for immediate family only after the Chapel Service also with the Rev. Paul Christy officiating.
