B.J. Cunningham, 90 of Vernon, Texas passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Electra. Officiating will be Rev. Bob Lee.
B.J. was born Sunday, December 11, 1927 in Haskell, Texas; he was the son of the late C.C. Cunningham and the late Betty Elizabeth Griffith Cunningham. He married Frances Gary on January 6, 1947 in Munday, TX. He had lived in Vernon January of 1987 and before that he lived in Andrews, TX. He joined the US. Navy at 17 during WWII and was on the USS Turner, a destroyer ship from 1945-46, and went to Japan before the war ended, earning the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a Master Mason over fifty years of Electra Lodge and worshipful Master 1966-67. He retired from Texaco in 1987 after thirty-five years, mostly in Electra, TX. and the last seven years in Andrews, TX, where he was the Hobbs District Area Superintendent. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
B.J. is survived by his wife Frances Cunningham of the home. one daughter, Kathy Handley and husband Bud of Vernon, TX; two granddaughter Krissana Brenner and husband Neal of Midland, TX., Kelsey Cunningham of Electra, TX. one grandson Kolby Cunningham of Midland, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a son Larry Cunningham in 2016 and five siblings.
Visitation will be Thursday at 10:00 and to 11:00 am at the church in Electra.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, or First United Methodist Church of Electra.
