He was born Dec.18, 1908, the son of Philip and Nettie Slingerland Freebold. Although stricken with infantile paralysis as a boy, Waldo Freehold became a standout performer, a 6'5” center, on the Fort Plain basketball teams of the late 1920s which contended for championship honors in the Central New York League.
