Arnold Bernise BRYANT
After a long and enjoyable life Arnold Bernise Bryant died in Henderson Nev. on May 16, 2018 just short of his 97th birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Jean.
Until his death, Arnold was still living independently, driving, and visiting friends at the local senior center and nearby casinos. Arnold was a gregarious fellow with many friends and many stories. He was a good father and husband who took pleasure in life.
Born in 1921, on a farm in Gettysburg, South Dakota, Arnold was working at an early age. He would recount stories of driving cattle on horseback, trailed by his mother in a horse drawn wagon, across the Missouri River to a ranch near Rapid City, South Dakota. By the time Arnold was in his early teens The Great Depression was making life rough for many families in South Dakota, so Arnold took to "riding the rails" for months at a time to explore, for the adventure, and to take some burden off the family. During those times he worked as a cow hand or dude ranch employee, mostly in ldaho.
He followed his folks to California in the late -1930's and entered the aircraft industry just prior to World War II. On Valentine's Day in 1942, he married Dorothy Jean Miller. During World War II, Arnold served as a mechanic and-flight engineer in the Army Air Corp., flying fuel and other supplies over the Himalayan mountains into China.
Post-war, he and Dorothy raised three boys while working at Edwards Air Force Base near Lancaster, California. Edwards, during the late 40's, is the Base where jet and space-age aircraft were developed. Arnold was right in the middle of all the testing and experimenting. It was an exciting time and his family was very proud of his contributions.
Upon retirement, Arnold moved to Valley Center, Calif., and later Las Vegas, Nev. Arnold's parents were Lee Hannon Bryant (1896-1984) and Debra Ina Burdick (1898-1990). He had two brothers and two sisters: Layne Phillip (1916-1987), Eldon Hurley (1919-1996), Avis Ramona (1926 ) and Lyla Lynara (1929-2002). He married Dorothy Jean Miller (1922-2003) and they had three sons.
Arnold and Dorothy will be buried together at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Palmdale, California.
