Obituary for Nicholas L. Stewart
On Thursday May 31st, 2018 Nicholas L Stewart died in Batesville IN and met the Lord. Nick was born to Adam and Helen Stewart Westrick on December 24th, 1933. Upon his mother’s death shortly after his birth, he was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Leota and George Stewart. Nick married Mary Baker on Sept 7th, 1957 and she preceded him in death on March 15th, 1998. Nick is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Patricia and Kurt Rauscher, Pamela and Lakish Hatalkar and Elizabeth and John Ruehl and three grandchildren: Maryasha Hatalkar, Michael Rauscher and Daniel Rauscher. Dad would remind us, “I won’t be gone. I will just have gone ahead of you.”
Nick was a Korean War veteran and was proud of his service and our country. Nick worked many years as Director of Purchasing for Batesville Casket Company. However, when asked about his favorite job, he would say with a big smile, “helping Santa Claus every December”. He also cherished his years serving on the Batesville Library board and City Council. Nick truly loved Batesville and always tried to do his part to make it the best community possible in which to live and raise a family.
Visitation will be Wednesday June 6th at Weigel’s Funeral Home in Batesville, IN from 4 to 7 pm. Celebration of Life Mass will be Thursday June 7th at St. Louis Catholic Church at 10 am. Memorials may be made to the Ripley County Humane Society, Batesville Memorial Public Library or Safe Passage.
