Mayor of Chicago. In 1835 Dyer moved from Connecticut to Chicago, then one of the fastest growing cities in America. He later became invested in the meat packing business then went into banking. In 1856 he was chosen to run for Mayor of Chicago by the Democratic party and was successful in that endeavor. He would serve as Mayor from March 11, 1856 until the following year. Shortly afterwards he was chosen to be the President of the newly created Chicago Board of Trade. He also served in the Illinois State legislature and served as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention.
