Joyce Elaine Shepherd, 72, of Morris, passed away Saturday June 2, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet. Born October 13, 1945 in Vandalia, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Eugene “Gene” and Helen Jean (Henson) Hawthorne.
Joyce was schooled in the Troy Township and Minooka schools. She married Roy Wayne Shepherd on July 18, 1964 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. Joyce was a seamstress who owned her own sewing business, Joyce’s Window Treatments, for 25 years and worked alongside other designers such as Lynda Myre Interiors in Seneca and Window Designs in Joliet along with several other designers. She also helped her husband operate a truck and heavy equipment garage called Wayne’s Garage, for 28 years. She enjoyed spending her time sewing, doing crafts, antiquing and spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her husband Wayne; daughters Laura Ann (Brian) Goff, Lisa Kay (Scott) Aldrich and Julie Renee (Ryan) Florey; grandchildren Brennan Lyle Goff, Devin Lane Wethington, Samantha Lynn Tondini, Madison Isabelle Tondini, Ethan Carter Phillips, Evan Michael Phillips, Emma Rose Phillips, Wyatt Aldrich and Colt Aldrich; siblings Kathy Ann Greenbeck, Patricia Jean (Curt) Stroud and Cheryl Sue (Tom) Tesdal; and sister in law’s Helen Martin and Barbara Shepherd.
She is preceded in death by her parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; brother Scott Eugene Hawthorne; grandson Ean Wayne Phillips; and nephew Craig Stroud.
Memorials may be made in Joyce’s name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Visitation for Joyce will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. A celebration of Joyce’s life will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Roy Backus of First Presbyterian Church of Morris officiating. Private inurnment at Sample Cemetery.
