Roger Allen Madigan, Age 88 of Luthers Mills and Harrisburg, PA passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his home in Harrisburg.

Family, friends and colleagues are invited to call on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 1 to 4 PM and 5 to 9 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, 1030 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947. Funeral services will be held privately and interment will be at the convenience of the family in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, PA. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years Millie L. (Kemmerer) Madigan, daughters, Vicki (Michael) Lynn Madigan Paxton of Carlisle, Annette (Bobby) Madigan Carr of Annapolis, MD, sons, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Madigan of Towanda, Steven Madigan of Emmaus, grandchildren, Kialeigh Grady, Matthew Madigan, Zachery Madigan, Morgan Madigan, Danae Madigan, step-children, Dr. David Wenner, Honorable William (Bobbi) Wenner, Beth Sizer all of Harrisburg, step-grandchildren, Michael Cleek, Andrew Cleek, Lauren Wenner Bricker, Michael Sizer, Kaitlyn Wenner Hook, Keegan Wenner, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, his first wife of 49 years, Margaret “Peggy” E. (Gobel) Madigan who passed away on January 20, 2002 and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis (Earl) Madigan McMorran and Laverna (Hugh) Madigan Clarke.

Roger was born in Luthers Mills, PA on January 25, 1930 son of the late Albert E. and Ada (Allen) Madigan. He was a graduate of Penn State University Class of 1951 receiving his BS Degree in Dairy Production. Following his graduation from Penn State he was a dairy farmer from 1951 to 1964 and then became an Insurance Underwriter. Roger was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1977 and served the 110th District until 1984. He successfully was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate in 1985 serving Pennsylvania’s’ 23rd District until 2009 when he did not seek re-election. During his service to the State of Pennsylvania Roger served on the Senate Transportation Committee, Vice Chairman of the Game and Fisheries Committee, member of the Appropriations, Labor and Industry and Agriculture & Rural Affairs committees. He also served as Chairman of the Joint State Government Commission and the Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System Board of Trustees.

Roger served as an agricultural trustee at The Pennsylvania State University from 1979 until 2001 and as a board of director of the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. He was presented the Alumnus of the Year Award from the Department of Dairy and Animal Science in 1995 from Penn State University and he was appointed Penn State Trustee Emeritus in 2003.

Some of the other awards consisted of the Government Leader of the Year from the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry in 1989, the Leadership Award from the Manufactures Association and the State Elected Official of the Year from the National Association of Homebuilders both presented in 1993.

His other community activities included memberships in the Rotary Club, Union Lodge #102 F&AM, Williamsport Consistory, IREM Temple, Bradford County Shrine Club, Bradford and Sullivan County Farmers’ Association, Union Grange and the Bradford and Pennsylvania Holstein Association he was a former trustee of Luthers Mills United Methodist Church and Guthrie Medical Center.
