Richard C Sellers was born in South Carolina June 13, 1821 departed this life Aug 29, 1909. Age 88 years 2 months 15 days. He came to Carroll County when he was just six years of age where he lived until he was 26 years of age,when he moved to Gibson county where he resided until his death. He professed in faith in Christ in the year of 1857 and joined the Missionary Baptist church of which he lived a consistent member until his death . He was a dutiful christian, always being regular at his church as long as health would permit. He was married to Mariah Hampton May 18,1846 to this union were born 11 children of whom 5 are still living. This companion was taken from him in Sept.1866,he was married to Anliza Crawford in Jan.1867 to whom were born 3 children of which all are still living.He was a devoted husband as a father he was all a father could mean always doing what he could do to make home pleasant.He had been sick for months but bore his aflictions with christian patience and aften said he was ready and waiting for his Lord to call him to his heavenly home. His loved ones done all in thier power to comfort him and restore his health but God knew best and must sumit to his will. He leaves a wife 8 children many grand-children a host of friends and relatives to mourn our loss. But our loss is his eternal gain for he only fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. Rev Bell of Bradford conducted the funeral service and he was laid to rest in Shiloh Cemetery.
