Actor. He was best known to television viewers as 'Chester Tate', the womanizing husband of Katherine Helmond's character 'Jessica Tate' on the 1970s ABC sitcom "Soap". He majored in theater at Pomona College and got his first big break in acting when veteran actor Edward Arnold pushed for him to star alongside him in a production of "All My Sons" in Palm Springs, California. He later appeared on the Broadway stage in both "Speaking of Murder" and "Applause". He also acted on the theatrical stage in different parts of the country during his career. He made his first appearance in television on the series "Kraft Theatre" in 1958 and went on to appear in many television series during his career. Besides "Soap", his television credits included such series as "The Doctors", "Caribe", "Barnaby Jones", "Private Benjamin", "Three's Company", "Three's A Crowd", "Santa Barbara", and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". In 1964, he made his film debut in "Light Fantastic" and went on to later appear in such films as "Hickey & Boggs" (1972), "MacArthur" (1977), "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" (1982), and "Zapped!" (1982). He passed away after a long illness.
