Beloved sister
Margaret M. Barry, 83, a resident of the City of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away on April 12, 2018. She was the daughter of the late William J. Barry and Julia M. Barry (nee Clancy).
Margaret grew up in Tompkinsville, Staten Island, N.Y. She graduated from St. Peter's Grammar School and St. Peter's Girls High School. She also graduated from Fordham University School of Education and received her master's degree from Rutgers University.
Margaret entered the convent, Sisters of Charity of New York after high school. She was a professed nun. Her name was Sister Marcella in that order. She became a New York City school teacher after leaving the convent. She was a kindergarten teacher at P.S. 38 R in Midland Beach, S.I. Margaret retired from teaching in 1986 for health reasons (cancer). Margaret suffered greatly the rest of her life from cancer. Health professionals considered her to be strong, a fighter, who never complained and always said (Thank You).
Margaret was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Marcella A. Barry. She is survived by her brother, William J. Barry.
Funeral is from Harmon Home for Funerals, 571 Forest Avenue, West Brighton, S.I., on Saturday 9:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Peter's Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment is in St. Peter's Cemetery.
